Gonca SOLMAZ /Gaziemir Science and Art Center       Highlights from April at Gaziemir Science and Art Center       We learned the memory card game. We played memory games using cards with pictures   of different concepts, including the ones we learned in our science classes, which helped  us   reinforce those concepts more effectively.      Another activity we did was turning a paper-and-pencil game called Race to Finish into a   3D version. We used egg cartons, toilet paper rolls, used paper, and cardboard to create a   three-dimensional board game. We rewrote the game instructions inspired by   environmentally sustainable habits to promote environmental awareness. We both built the   game and played it.   My students and also I had such a fantastic time while preparing a Race to Finish Game that totally belong to them in terms of looks of the game and its rules. We also talked about upcycling.  They live in a world where reach for games is much easier than our generation as teachers. We used anything as toys such as, I remember using cologne bottles as toy food replacements and making keys as horse carriage bells by jingling them on the tip of my toes. :)  Due to climate change and global warming, we should remind our students to use their belongings as much as they can including toys.  By learning upcycling, my students tell me they think differently when they see a piece of "rubbish" now that it maybe converted to something else and reused again through upcycling.
